I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I enjoyed skateboarding and playing baseball. Dreaming of even broader horizons, I moved to Vancouver in 2009 to attend UBC for my undergraduate degree, majoring in sociology, with a focus on community studies, social movements, and the social and economic impacts of globalisation and mass consumption.
My love for learning led me to the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law, where I focused on all aspects of business and commercial law. While at law school, I competed in the 2018 Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot, representing the UofA in one of eight teams from around the world selected to compete. I was also heavily involved at Student Legal Services of Edmonton, a student-run low-income clinic that provides free legal information and limited services to the larger Edmonton community, first as a summer caseworker, and subsequently as the Civil Coordinator for the Civil/Family Project.
After law school, I articled and subsequently practiced at a boutique business law firm in Edmonton, acting as external general counsel to a wide range of small and medium enterprises, including restaurants, engineering and medical professionals, general contractors, and tech companies. In those early days, I learned the foundational lesson that I carry with me in my practice to this day: that understanding not just my clients’ business, but also their dreams and motivations, is the bedrock for providing top-tier, tailored solutions for every stage of a business’s growth and success.
Always and forever a true West Coaster, I returned to Vancouver, to expand my general solicitor’s practice before joining Breakwater Law here in Victoria.
I continue to hone my business and commercial practice, striving to provide sound legal advice that is informed by each client’s particular circumstances and goals. I emphasize clean, simple contracts that are effective and easy to read and understand. I enjoy getting to know my clients and their enterprises from the ground up, and wherever possible I like to meet with clients in their place of business (and especially restaurants!).
I also maintain a growing estates and general civil litigation practice, drawing upon my mooting career, and my advocacy experience in both BC and Alberta. I enjoy digging into the heart of a dispute to tease out the best possible solutions for my clients, legal and otherwise.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me most often somewhere on my road bike, on the constant and never-ending search for my one true love: the perfect slice of pizza.
